Burdwan rice mills cluster (West Bengal)

Introduction

Burdwan is one of the major rice producing clusters in West Bengal, with over 500 rice mills in operation. The units comprise traditional huller-type mills as well as modern high-capacity mills. The cluster primarily produces parboiled rice (55%), along with pressure-boiled rice, raw rice and scented rice (15% each). The installed capacity of the rice mills ranges between 24–150 tonnes per day (tpd) of paddy processing.
