Porbandar Mixed Minerals Processing Industries (Gujarat)

Introduction

Porbandar hosts a large number of industries, most of them MSMEs. Among them is an important cluster of about 60 mixed mineral processing units. The cluster is spread within Porbandar and neighbouring GIDC industrial estates. Around 25 units are engaged in producing chalk powder; 20 units produce calcined bauxite; and the remaining 15 units produce emery abrasives. The calcined bauxite units account for around 80% of total energy consumption in the cluster. The products are used in different end-use sectors and applications such as paints and distempers, rubber, putty, abrasives, refractory industries, flour mill stones, etc.
