Chennai aluminium casting cluster (Tamil Nadu)

Introduction
The city of Chennai hosts a cluster of MSMEs engaged in aluminium die casting. There are about 200 units in the cluster, including 120 pressure die casting (PDC) and 60 gravity die casting (GDC) units. They produce aluminium castings mainly for the large-scale automobile and automotive component industries in the region like Lucas TVS, Maruti Suzuki, SMR, Rotork, etc. The aluminium casting units are concentrated in two areas: Thirumudivakkam and Ambattur. The total production of the cluster is about 60,000 tonnes per annum (tpa).
